Moon sign, not sun sign
Most people know their sun sign, because that is what Western horoscopes use. Vedic astrology reads the daily transit from the moon sign — the rashi the Moon occupied at your birth. The two are usually different.
The Moon crosses a whole rashi in about two and a quarter days, so a date is often enough to settle it. Work it out below — nothing is sent anywhere, the calculation runs in your browser.
How these readings are derived
- The Moon's true ecliptic longitude is computed for 06:00 IST, then converted to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri ayanamsa.
- That gives the Moon's rashi, its nakshatra and pada, and — with the Sun's position — the tithi.
- For each rashi, the house the Moon occupies counted from that sign determines the tone. This is Chandra gochara.
- Houses 1, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 from the janma rashi are counted favourable. Other lineages divide these differently; this is the common set, not the only one.
A transit reading describes the day's weather, not your life. It knows nothing about your own birth chart — for that, a full reading is the honest answer.
